The 692nd Lord Mayor of the City of London Alderman William Russell joins Karina Robinson, Master of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers, for a chat.

The Lord Mayor is the Ambassador for the City of London – the UK’s financial and professional services - which is responsible for around 12% of the UK’s tax revenues.  In a world of geopolitical upheavals, increasing inequality and powerful social media, William Russell must navigate these stormy seas for the good of the private sector and of the country. To this list of challenges must be added that of Covid-19. He will share with us how he fulfils his role and how he sees the future of the industry.

Alderman Russell has over 30 years’ experience in the financial and business City including holding senior positions in the national and international banking sector.

In 1987 he went to work for First Boston Corporation before joining Merrill Lynch in 1992 as an Investment Banker in Institutional Equity Sales, working in Asia, New York and London.

Alderman Russell is currently Chair of CDAM, a London based Asset Management business, and Senior Advisor to STJ Advisors. He was also on the Board of Innovate Finance, the industry body for the UK based FinTech community.
